What Unfog does
Unfog is a fog-of-war map for real journeys: it remembers every street and path you have walked or travelled.
Knows how you travel
Unfog tells walking, running, cycling, driving and flying apart. Bus, train, tram, ferry or e-scooter take one tap to assign, and the map updates.
Two layers
What you explore under your own power counts separately from what you saw by car, train or plane. The area appears in square kilometres on the map.
Map without internet
Europe and Germany are built in. Detailed maps for each German state download on demand (21 MB for Bremen up to 972 MB for Bavaria). The request contains only the name of the map.
History with honest gaps
The history shows every leg with means of transport, distance and duration. Where nothing was recorded, such as in a tunnel, you see a gap with its reason instead of an invented line.
Bring earlier trips
Recorded tracks from Komoot, Strava or your watch import as GPX and clear the fog there too. Planned routes without times stay out, because you were not necessarily there. To try it, download three made-up sample trips.
Health, if you like
Unfog can show steps, distance, heart rate, sleep and workouts from Health. It only reads them, writes nothing and never stores them. No ratings, no diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions
When will Unfog be available?
Unfog is being tested on real devices. As soon as it is in the App Store, the link will be here.
Does Unfog need internet?
No. Recording, the map and the history work offline. The app only goes online when you open the list of detailed maps or download one.
How much battery does Unfog use?
Unfog only uses GPS while you move and rests when you stand still. How much that costs on a normal day is being measured on real devices before launch, and the result will be published here.
What happens if I swipe the app away in the app switcher?
iOS may then pause recording until you open the app again. Unfog marks the time in between as a gap in the history instead of inventing a route.
Are my locations uploaded?
No. There is no server that receives your locations or health data. They are stored in a database on your iPhone, by default even outside your iPhone backup.
How is Unfog different from other fog maps?
Unfog records without a start button, detects the means of transport, separates journeys under your own power from rides, comes with detailed maps for every German state and processes everything on the device only.
Is Unfog available for Android?
No, Unfog is available for iPhone only.
